Citi Economic Pulse

Citi Economic Pulse revealed that while 74 percent of Americans consider themselves financially stable, more than 48 percent do not have the savings they say they need to achieve actual stability. While most Americans understand the importance of savings – 76 percent say it is very or extremely important – nearly two-thirds have no savings goals, and 25 percent say they expect to save $0 in 2012. Low- and moderate-income Americans are the least positive of all Americans about their current level of savings. Just 41 percent of those making less than $50,000 a year report saving on a regular basis and only a quarter say they have a savings goal or are saving the right amount or more.
